Patient Info

My Home Physio

We work seven days a week from Monday to Sunday.

We offer routine appointments in usual working hours between 7.30 and 17.30 from Monday- Friday at the normal charge. At the availability of the therapist, we can offer the evening calls beyond 17.30 too. The routine appointments need to be booked in advance and waiting time on average is around 5 days.

We understand that in special circumstances the clients may require more urgent appointments, which need to be booked at short notice.  Urgency of the appointments may be determined by many factors e.g., how recent the injury was, the severity of injury /pain, the age of the patient, a level of distress etc. The reasons for the urgency could be personal too e.g., needing an assessment / treatment for sport event or return to the job. Urgent visits are offered on the same day or, if therapist is not available, within 1-3 days. We reserve Saturdays and Sundays for urgent visits too. For all URGENT visits extra charges apply and this will be at the rate which will be discussed at the time of booking.

The session with a physiotherapist involves initial a free initial telephone interview, then the actual booked face-to-face appointment and a free follow -up next day over the phone. Through this set up we are completing the loop of basic care and hopefully set you up for daily practice of achieving your ideal self (e.g., recovering from injury).  We always intend to equip you with enough knowledge, skills, and strategies so you can self- manage and coach yourself.

Assessment and treatment are always tailored to the needs and expectations of the client. The exact plan for the visits will be first discussed and agreed during the initial free telephone consultation. Much of the interview will take place during the free phone call so the actual visit (60 min) will be used for the things that matter the most to you, such as working with your body and mind to complete the objectives for the session e.g., pain reduction, more optimal movement pattern or setting up a good self- management in place.

Based on your perceived needs/ preferences we discuss and agree on the most desired outcome for the first session.

Most common goals for the 1st sessions are:

– identified the source of pain and working diagnosis e.g., which joint does your pain come from or which structure is causing it e.g., muscle and joint vs nerve

– rule out nasty causes of you pain such as fracture, infection, cancer, inflammatory conditions, pain coming from other organs e.g., gall bladder

– pain relief e.g., you have tried the GP recommended self-management techniques and advice from your local physio and you want to explore other options

– you want to improve the movement in the affected part of the body, so you want to be back to your normal self

– you want to learn how to prevent injuries during your job, favourite sport (recreational/ semi-professional, or daily hobbies

– improve connection with your body so your body does match with your emotional state/ energy levels (e.g., when your mind is at the top of the game, but body feels tight / weak)

–  you want to reduce tension in the body whilst you hold the conversation, run, or attend to your daily errands

– you want to improve motivation and set up a solid plan for making positive heath changes or meet your desired objectives

– you want to prepare your body for a competition or an event

– you want simply to increase your strength, flexibility, and stamina to match your age or your personal standards

– you need help with losing weight

– learn how your emotions, feelings and thoughts may influence your action and how you relate to others.

– learn how to recognise which emotion is more dominant at different times and how to manage it so it does not affect your pain, movement, or activity level etc.

– you may want to skip the assessment and ask straight for manual therapy, massage, or acupuncture to relive pain or energise you too- it still ok to do that but if we know about it sooner, we will be able to meet your expectations without delays

From what you select as the main objective we carry out the physical examination and discuss the findings, so you are fully informed about prognosis and the treatment options that are available.

What happens in the treatment part?

Based on the findings from the assessment we will discuss the options for treatment.

The range of treatments is:

Manual therapy (manipulation and soft -tissue release)

Exercise therapy targeting the main source of the pain/ injured tissue or working more away from it in the acute stage

Movement, activity, sport modifications ideas to reduce stress on the tissue and optime the healing

       Postural correction practice/ exercise

       Acupuncture

       Massage

       Cardiovascular / endurance workout

Implementation of a home exercise program

Instruction on safe use of mobility aids as necessary (walking sticks, walkers)

Education on your condition in the context of your job, daily activities, ergonomics and home

We can plan for any of the above or a combination of few which can be delivered in the session or over next few sessions. In the acute stage the selection of specific treatments may be more advisable to start with to e.g., manual therapy with movement /activity modification to reduce pain (as opposed to strengthening exercises)
